GM Antonio, WGM Frayna to compete in Dan Jorda & IIEE-Bayanihan Chess Club FIDE-rated Open Rapid Chess Tournament PhilBoxing.com Mon, 19 Feb 2024 MANILA---GRANDMASTER (GM) Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. and Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Janelle Mae Frayna are set to compete in the Dan Jorda & IIEE-Bayanihan Chess Club FIDE-rated Open Rapid Chess Tournament on Sunday, February 25 at the Sentro Artista, Arton Strip, Rockwell, Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City. Eugene Torre, chess hall-of-famer and Asia's first Grandmaster, has been invited to give an inspirational remark to the participants in the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Bayanihan Chess Club founding president National Master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. will make the welcome remarks while National Arbiter Ranier Pascual will introduce the guest speakers. The event, jointly organized by the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (IIEE) and Bayanihan Chess Club and backed up by Danilo Jorda, Atty. Rodolfo Enrique Rivera, Engr. Gerry Gamaro and Engr. Allan Anthony Alvarez, offers a total prize of P12,000 with the champion getting the lion share of P1,500, plus medal and an art work painting worth P15,000. Other woodpushers vying in the event, sponsored by Engr. Arthur Maurera of Eurolux, Engr. Joseph Darren Solicar of SCS Construction, Engr. Ervin Fernandez of Genikos, Engr. Butch Florido, Engr. Efren Rocamora, Engr. Roger Reyes, Engr. Robert Arellano, Atty. Juman Paa, Travis Vincent Chua, Starshots Coffee and Nova Wellness store, are IM Angelo Young, IM Jose Efren Bagamasbad, IM Barlo Nadera and IM Hamed Nouri. Other notable masters participating are FM Adrian Ros Pacis, FM Alekhine Nouri, FM Randy Segarra, FM Noel dela Cruz and WFM Allaney Jia Doroy. Also joining are NM Oscar Joseph Cantela, NM Lorenzo Aaron Cantela, NM Jose Aquino Jr., NM Romeo Alcodia, NM Edmundo Gatus, WNM Rinoa Mariel Sadey and WNM Francois Marie Magpily.-Marlon Bernardino-  |
