FM Arca to compete in rapid chess tournament in Dasmariñas

MANILA---FIDE Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca is set to compete in the IM Rony and Mam Elvira Roca Rapid Invitational Chess Tournament on Saturday, February 17, 2024, 1 pm at the Metro Gate Club House in Dasmariñas City, Cavite.
"I would like to thank IM Rony and Mam Elvira Roca for inviting me to participate in this tough single round-robin tournament," said Arca, the reigning World Youth Blitz Chess Champion.
Expected to give Arca a run for his money are IM Chito Garma, IM Ricardo de Guzman, IM Barlo Nadera, IM Angelo Young, FM Adrian Ros Pacis, FM Carlos Edgardo Garma, NM Carlo Lorena, NM Edmundo Gatus, NM Homer Cunanan, NM Romeo Alcodia, and NM Oscar Joseph Cantela.
The 1-day event backed up by rocafé coffee bar, being held to coincide the birthday celebration of IM Rony and Mam Elvira Roca offers total pot prizes of P50,000, applying 8 minutes plus 3 seconds increment time control, single round robin format.
Arca (14 yrs old) and Cantela (16 yrs old), both Philippine representatives in last year's World Youth Chess Championships in Montesilvano, Italy.
"We (Elvira) want to share our blessings sa kapwa ko mga chess players natin kaya nagpalaro kami ng wife ko," said IM Rony, a former top player of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority chess team.-Marlon Bernardino-
