SPORTS FACTS AND FIGURES 40: TEOFIMO LOPEZ BATTLES JAMAINE ORTIZ FOR THE WBO JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Teofimo Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) will defend his WBO and Ring Magazine junior welterweight titles against Jamaine Ortiz (17-1-1, 8 KOs) today at Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Lopez has held multiple world championships in two weight classes, including the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and The Ring light welterweight titles since June 2023. He was once the unified World Boxing Association (WBA) (Super version), International Boxing Federation (IBF), WBO, and Ring lightweight champion.

Lopez was also the lineal champion at lightweight and light welterweight. In 20 fights, he has 19 wins, 1 loss with 13 wins by knockout. He lost to George Kambosos Jr. by split decision on November 27, 2021 in Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, New York City, losing his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles.

Lopez moved up to the junior welterweight division on August 13, 2022 when he knocked out Mexican Pedro Campa in the seventh round then a split decision over Spain's Sandor Martin on December 10, 2022. In his most recent fight, he defeated former undisputed champion Josh Taylor to grab the WBO and Ring Magazine junior welterweight titles belts.

Ortiz will engage in his first world title fight. He had his professional debut on May 13, 2016. Ortiz has held USBA and NABF titles as a professional. He scored his first major victory in an upset win over Jamel Herring on May 21, 2021, to defend his NABF title and capture the IBF USBA lightweight belt.

Ortiz suffered his first professional defeat to the legendary Vasyl Lomachenko on October 29, 2022. In 19 fights, he has 17 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw with 8 knockout wins.

In the 10-round lightweight co-feature, U.S. Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis (9-0, 6 KOs) fights Puerto Rican former two-division world champion Jose “Sniper” Pedraza (29-5-1, 14 KOs).

A.C. Green was nicknamed "Iron Man", as he holds a National Basketball Association (NBA) record for most consecutive regular-season games played with 1,192. Green played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat. But he was most successful with the Lakers, where he won three championships in 1987, 1988 and 2000.
