Surigao Diamond Knights: Ready and Excited to Play in ACAPI Tourney

MANILA---Veteran woodpusher Lennon Hart Salgados who is the team captain of the Surigao Diamond Knights said that they are excited and very ready to play against other teams from different parts of the country when the Chess Amateurs in the Philippines, Inc. (ACAPI) gets underway on February 13 thru the online Platform Chess.com.

“We are just very ready and we are excited to play and enjoy the upcoming games,” said Salgados.

Other members of the Surigao Diamond Knights backed up by Rep. Ace Barbers are Adrian Perez, Alexis Emil Maribao, Cyrus Donssco, Deo Sandro Ladion, Romuald AvelEdillo, July Pete Comanda, Ronel Pilan, Fami Fazon, Harold Buo, Bret Michael and team manager engr. Dohjie Morales for the Open division.

Also joining are Reyanaldo Quiñones, Joselito Serna, Edgarnilo Luzgano and team manager AGM engr. Rey C. Urbiztondo for the Senior category.

Also playing are Jonas Matugas (PWD), James Catayas (Youth), Jhon Clarence Broniola (Youth), Yohan Ryce Yu (Youth), Prime Lester Broniola (Youth), Sofia Tanya Sy (Youth), Christian Jay Agape (Youth), Jamilla Mae Comanda (Youth), Kyrie Gofredo (Youth), Janice Ceasa Mharie Monsales (Female), Julleah Mae R. Besinio (Female), Cherrie Mae Gofredo (Female), Weilla Zennith Galindo (Female), Sofia Tanya Sy (12 years old and below), Christian Jay Agape (12 years old and below), Jamilla Mae Comanda (12 years old and below) and Kyrie Gofredo (12 years odl and below).

The league, which is founded by the team of Online Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Engr. Rey Crisologo Urbiztondo, will have 101 teams competing, composed of Open (16 teams), Senior (13 teams), Female (14 teams), Youth (25 teams), U-12 ( 21 teams)and PWD (12 teams).

“We have been planning this for a long time,” said Engr. Urbiztondo, who is also board of director of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).

"We are doing this for the chess industry,” added Urbiztondo of the league that seeks to provide opportunities for the country's amateur woodpushers. It covers almost all sectors of the chess community with 6 categories, notably: Open, Youth, Elementary, Seniors, Ladies and PWD.

"Presently about 101 teams have confirmed participation or almost 600 players and still counting with the deadline of submission of participation on February 8." last word of engr.
