PH bet Kim Yutangco Zafra wins Sweden chess tourney

MANILA---Filipino Kim Yutangco Zafra pocketed the top honors in the Rilton International Chess Tournament that was held from January 2 to 5, 2024 at the Scandic Continental Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Europe based Zafra collected 6.5 points on account of six wins and one draw in seven outings in the FIDE Standard rated event, organized by Stockholms Chess Federation applying 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment.
Zafra scored victories over Kjell Jernselius of Sweden in the first round, Victor Kämpe of Sweden in the second round, Yohan Thamarai of Sweden in the third round, Anders Paulsson of Sweden in the fourth round, Ram Srinivasson of Sweden in the fifth round and Svante Nödtveidt of Sweden in the seventh and final round.
He split the point with Almaaaqbeh Ezeldeen of Jordan in the sixth and penultimate round.
"I would like to dedicate my victory to my countrymen," said Zafra, much known in the chess world "The Gambling Mathematician" who is mentored by Coach Chester Caminong.
Another Filipino entry Carl Benjamin Valdez finished at over-all 28th place with 4.5 points which attracted 106 chess players.-Marlon Bernardino-
