PhilBoxing.com Wed, 06 Dec 2023  Automotive giants back Rodriguez vs. Edwards on Dec. 16 As he prepares for the blockbuster Flyweight unification battle against Sunny Edwards, Jesse Rodriguez is meeting fans and signing autographs at the O’Reilly Auto Parts near where he trains today - fans can meet him at 5691 Mission Blvd., Jurupa Valley, California, from 4pm to 6pm. Eddie Hearn and Matchroom are delighted to welcome O’Reilly Auto Parts as a partner for the fight, which will be held at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, on Saturday, Dec. 16, and be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN. Rodriguez and Edwards put their belts on the line in one of the most hotly anticipated fights of the year in their first ever unification bouts. WBO king Rodriguez (18-0 11 KOs) returns to the state where he landed his first World title back in February 2022 when he defeated Carlos Cuadras to land the WBC Super-Flyweight strap. The San Antonio star defended that title twice with wins over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Israel Gonzalez before becoming a two-weight champion on home turf in April by seeing off Christian Hernandez. Edwards (20-0 4 KOs) finally gets the blockbuster showdown that he’s been craving after becoming the IBF champion in April 2021 with a trademark classy win over Moruti Mthalane in London. A pair of successful defenses in Dubai followed in December against Jayson Mama and in March over Muhammad Waseem before victory in defense number three followed in his adopted Sheffield hometown over Felix Alvarado. O’Reilly Auto Parts has been a prominent supporter of boxing for many years, including sponsoring the all three bouts in the historic Canelo-GGG rivalry. “We are delighted to have O’Reilly Auto Parts on board for this brilliant fight in Arizona,” said Hearn. “O’Reilly has been backing Matchroom events, and the sport as a whole, for a long time, and it is great to have their backing on what promises to be one of the best fight nights of 2023.”  |
