Bacojo finishes ninth in Italy chess By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Sun, 26 Nov 2023 Montesilvano, Italy---Filipino FIDE Master Mark Jay Bacojo finished in ninth place at the FIDE World Youth Chess Championship being held at the Pala Dean Martin centro congressi in Montesilvano, Italy. Bacojo had seven wins, one draw and three loses at the end of the Standard tournament that ended last Friday. The 17-year-old Dasmarinas-based Bacojo defeated Kelvin Kosta of Albania (Round 1), FM Tymon Ochedzan of Poland (Round 2), FM Mathias Unneland of Norway (Round 4), IM Timothe Razafindratsima of France (Round 5), FM Nguyen Quoc Hy of Vietnam (Round 7),IM Emin Ohanyan of Armenia (Round 8), and FM Munkhdalai Amilal of Mongolia (Round 11). He drew with GM Volodar Murzin of Russia (Round 6). He lost to FM Simon Lamaze of France (Round 3), IM Aleksey Grebnev of Russia (Round 9) and CM Chakraborty Mayank of India (Round 10). Grebnev took the top honors plus the gold medal in the Boys under-18 section with 9.5 points in 11 outings followed by 2nd placer and silver medalist Murzin and third placer/bronze medalist IM Aldiyar Ansat of Kazakhstan who totes 9.0 points, and 8.5 points, respectively. FIDE Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca settled over-all 24th place in the Boys under-14 section with 7.0 points while Mark Gabriel Usman and Charly Jhon Yamson ended up 89th and 168th place who toted 5.5 points and 3.0 points, respectively. National Master Oscar Joseph Cantela rallied in the end game with 4.5 points in the last five games to settle 45th place with 6.5 points in the Boys under-16 section. Bacojo added 49 elo rating points while Cantela got 101 elo rating points. Other members of the PH age group chess team headed by AGM Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. (Delegation Head/Coach), WFM Shania Mae Mendoza (Coach) and AFM Ederwin Estavillo (Coach) are Woman National Master Franchesca Largo (Girls under-18 section with 6 pts.) Woman National Master Kaye Lalaine Regidor (Girls under-16 section with 6.5 pts.), Woman National Master Bonjoure Fille Suyamin (Girls under-14 with 6 pts.) , Jirah Floravie Cutiyog (Girls under-14 with 5.5 pts.) Anica Shey Dimatangihan (Girls under-14 with 3.0 points) and Maureinn Leopaopao (Girls under-14 with 2.0 pts.).
