Jeremy Marticio to compete in a rapid chess tournament in Lingayen By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Fri, 30 Jun 2023 MANILA---Jeremy Marticio is set to compete in the Lingayen Open Chess Tournament, dubbed as the 2nd Engr. Alejandro Ramos Sr. , Jr. Memorial Open Chess Tournament, gets underway on July 2 at the Civic Center, Lingayen, Pangasinan. "I hope to do well in this prestigious event (Lingayen Open Chess Tournament, dubbed as the 2nd Engr. Alejandro Ramos Sr. , Jr. Memorial Open Chess Tournament)," said Marticio, the pride of Cabuyao City, whose local tournament is supported by Cabuyao City Mayor Dennis Hain and Arena Grandmaster Dr. Fred Paez. The 17-year-old Marticio, a Grade 11 student of Pulo Senior High School, aims to raise his rapid rating 1764 to more than 2000. Marticio is fresh from winning the Mayor Darel Dexter T. Uy National National Age Group Chess Championships Grand Finals U18 Boys division, blitz event held in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte last April 10. Marticio is also set to compete in the 82nd Birthday and 25th Death Anniversary of Atty./GM Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. Open Rapid on September 30 at the second floor Open Kitchen Foodhall, Rockwell Business Center, Sheridan Street, Mandaluyong City. Marticio learned the Rudiments of Chess Game at the age of 10. Other early entries in the 1-day tournament, organized by Pangasinan Chess Federation president Juan Sison and Lingayen Chess Club official Tom Ferrer in close cooperation with Mayor Leopoldo N. Bataoil are IM Ronald Bancod, IM Rolando Nolte, WNM Jersey Marticio, Romy Fagon, Henry Calacday, Jose "Fer" Camaya, Nestor Gabayan, James Basa, Bensh Manago, Jonathan Bayron and Edgar Tullao. The 15 minutes plus 5 seconds delay time control format Open category will offer P10,000, P7,000, P5,000, P3,000, P2,000, P1,000 and P800 for the first, second, third, fourth, fifth , sixth placers and seventh while the eight to 10th placers will receive P500 each and 11th to 15th placers will earn P300 apiece. The 12 years old and below category champion of the event will receive P4,000. The second to 5th place will bring home P2,000, P1,000, P700 and P500, respectively while the 6th to 10th placers will pocket P300 each. There will also be cash prizes awaiting the winners for the top Pangasinan, top Lingayen, top lady, top senior and top junior.
