Filipino Chess Master To Attend Seminar In Beijing, China

A 12-member delegation of journalists and media practitioners from the Philippines headed by Filipino National Master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. are set to visit the capital Beijing in the People's Republic of China today, Monday via China Southern Airlines, to attend a seminar for Journalists and Media Practitioners from the Philippines.
The seminar, which will run from May 3 to June 5, is expected to foster deeper relations between Philippines and China; expose participants to Chinese tourism management practices; exchange best practices; and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
Joining chess master Bernardino are Alex Anglao Destor, Ian Ray Canoy Garcia, Marie Joselle Badilla, Jecia Anne Opiana, Carlo Jose Magno Villo, Jade Joy Lopez, Mark Anthony Lopez, Shaira Francisco, Pia Consuelo Antonina Morato, Rose Beatrix Cruz-Angeles and George Ahmed Paglinawan.
Bernardino is a sportswriter, radio commentator and columnist, who is also a Filipino National Master in the field of chess.
"It's an honor to be invited to this wonderful event," said Bernardino, who is very excited to visit Beijing, China.
"This is my first time visiting Beijing, China and for me it is a memorable," added Bernardino, an online Arena Grandmaster.
It shall be recalled that the historic 1st RP-PROC Friendship chess match took place at Peking Hotel in Beijing, China in 1975.
This was the breakthrough of chess in China. After this 1st RP-PROC Friendship chess match, China became a member of the World Chess Federation.
It took China almost 48 years to finally win the coveted overall World Champion for the very first time in the person of the amiable Chinese Grandmaster Ding Liren.
Men and women can compete in the World Chess Championship, but no Chinese player had previously won it. Ju Wenjun is the reigning world champion in women's chess, meaning China now holds both world titles.-Marlon Bernardino-
