Pasig City King Pirates rule over Davao Chess Eagles to claim PCAP crown

Pasig City King Pirates are the champions of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines.
Playing under the guidance of Pasig City mayor Vico Sotto and coach Franco Camillo, the Pasig City King Pirates defeated Davao Chess Eagles, 11.5-9.5, 11.5-9.5, in 2 sets last Wednesday virtually held at Chess.com Platform.
“It was a great honor for the Pasig City King Pirates for winning the prestigious PCAP tournament. We are proud of our athletes and we are hoping to win more chess titles,” said Pasig City King Pirates coach Franco Camillo.
In set one of the Grand Finals against Davao, GM Mark Paragua, AGM Rowelyn Joy Acedo, IM Chris Ramayrat Jr., and Jerome Villanueva carried the Pasig King Pirates team in rapid play for a 9-5 win.
Davao, earlier took control of the blitz category, 4.5-2.5.
The second set was another story after they split 3.5-3.5 in the blitz category.
However, Paragua, FM Nelson "Elo" Mariano III and IM Eric Labog Jr. provided the full points in the rapid play while IM Idelfonso Datu and Kevin Arquero chipped in half point each for a 8-6 win.
In the battle for third place, Laguna Dasmariñas toppled Negros Island Region, 14-7.
PCAP, the country’s first and only professional chess league, is managed by President-Commissioner Atty. Paul Elauria and Chairman Michael Angelo Ong Chua.
The tournament is supported by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), headed by Chairman-President Prospero “Butch” Pichay Jr.-Marlon Bernardino-
