Ligas beats Libranza, retains RP title
By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Fri, 31 Mar 2023

BIENVENIDO “Sniper Ben Fairtex” Ligas of Caloocan City had better punches and good defense to beat former champion Genisis “Cobra” Libranza of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur and retained his Philippine flyweight title last March 30 at the Balon Bayambang Events Center in Bayambang.
“This was a difficult match for me because Genisis is a veteran, very experienced,” said Ligas.
It was also the best birthday gift for Ligas, who turns 25 on March 31.
Ligas now has 15 wins with nine knockouts against three loses and two draws while the 29-year-old Libranza suffered only his second defeat against 20 wins with 12 knockouts.
It was also the second title defense by Ligas.
“I also expect that the result of the fight will be really difficult,” said Ligas, who thanked promoter-manager Cucuy Elorde and trainer Jetro Pabustan.
“But I also did the game plan of our team so that's why the game plan of my trainer and our team was effective,” added Ligas.
Meanwhile, Roy “D’Hammer” Sumugat of Bacolod City scored a unanimous decision win over Richard Bulacan of Davao del Norte to win the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation flyweight title in the main supporting event.
The matchmaker was Edmundo Dellosa.
