Philippine chess team off to a good start in Serbia, FIDE Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities

MANILA---THE Philippine chess team scored contrasting victories at the start of FIDE Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities held at Belgrade's Crown Plaza Hotel in Belgrade, Serbia on Monday.
The PH chess team easily posted a 3.5-0.5 victory over their Uzbekistan counterparts.
Fide Master Sander Severino, National Master Henry Roger Lopez and National Master Darry Bernardo delivered the wins while Cheyzer Crystal Mendoza drew her game.
Severino, the 2018 International Physically Disabled Chess Association (IPCA) World Online Chess Rapid Champion blasted Sirojiddin Zaynidinov on Board 1, Lopez trounced Sardorbek Mamarajabov on Board 2, Bernardo outplayed Marsel Shayusupov on Board 3 while Mendoza split the points with Axadxon Kimsanboyev.
“I am happy with the performance. Hope mahawakan natin ang magandang momentum", said PH chess team coach National Master James Infiesto.
Three teams, FIDE, India, and Romania won with a perfect 4-0 score. Tournament favorite Croatia lost to Serbia 2 is an upset of the day.
Over 100 players from 33 countries take part the said event.
The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one. Default time is 15 minutes.-Marlon Bernardino-
