Gambit Chess Team Shine in 1st Classical Chess Tournament

MANILA---Gambit chess team played brilliantly to bring home top awards in the 1st Classical Chess Tournament held last January 14 to 15 in Batangas City.
The Gambit Chess Team is composed of Gary Legaspi, Luffe Magdalaga, Jerry Areque, Christian Arroyo and Prince Mark Aquino who receive a P8,000 cash prize.
They proved too superior for the competition scoring 16.5 points in the Scheveningen system, 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment time control format beating Batangas City Chess Club-Golden Mind Chess Club with 8.5 markers who got P1,000 cash prize.
The members of Batangas City Chess Club-Golden Mind Chess Club are UAE based Marlon Cunanan, Manolo Puertellano, Edman Maranan, Leonard Bee Libongcogon and King Alexander Osena.
The Scheveningen system is a method of organizing a chess match between two teams. Each player on one team plays each player on the other team according to Chief Arbiter Marian Osena.-Marlon Bernardino-
