Canoy KOs Horikawa, wins OPBF title

JOEY Canoy of General Santos City knocked out former champion Kenichi Horikawa of Japan in the 7th round to win the vacant Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation light flyweight title last Sunday, November 4 at the EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan.
The 29-year-old Canoy started hitting Horikawa in the second round with his left-right punches.
Horikawa also threw his jabs against Canoy as they hit it bell to bell in the 3th to 6th rounds.
But Canoy started with pummeling punches in the 8th round to send Horikawa down on the canvas. Referee Masahiro Murova raises his hands to stop the fight.
The 5-foot-3 Canoy, who is trained by Markquil Salvaña, has now 19 wins, five loses, two draws with 11 knockouts, while the 42-year-old Horikawa suffered his 18th loss against 41 wins and one draw.

Canoy also thanked his bosses JC Manangquil, Tata Ng- Tan, Dexter Tan, John Ray Manangquil and Jefti Tinamisan.
Meanwhile, Marco John Rementizo of Cagayan de Oro and Jonathan Taconing of Zamboanga both suffered loses the undercard.
Rementizo bowed to Goki Kobayashi of Japan by unanimous decision for the WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title while Taconing lost by a unanimous decision to undefeated Kazuki Anaguchi.
