VIET CHAMP: “BACONAJE WON’T GO THE DISTANCE”

PhilBoxing.com

Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Nov 24th -

Vietnam's defending IBF Lightweight champion Dinh Hong Quân is in career best shape for his impending clash with the Philippines’ Arnel Baconaje, and has plans to make it an early night. The HCMC based prospect with a 9-1 record will contest the main event in front of a home crowd at The Grand Ho Tram Resort and Casino on Saturday December 10.

The “Fortunes of War” show will feature many of Asia’s best, with fighters from the Philippines, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam on show.

And despite a close and hard earned victory at his most recent IBF Asia defense, Quân is supremely confident that fans will see a vastly improved performance in Ho Tram. Focal to his confidence is an extensive training camp in General Santos City with the legendary Manny Pacquiao, who is training demonically for an exhibition match in South Korea next month. The Vietnam boxer known as the “Black Hawk” cites the famous Filipino as a great source of knowledge and inspiration in his December preparations.

"I had to lose a lot of weight, and did it way too fast for my last fight with Jules Victoriano. I must admit he was a very tough opponent. But I feel in way better shape this time, my camp has been good, and being able to train with a legend like Manny Pacquiao has helped me a lot.

A lot of people say it was a very close fight with the Philippines boxer last time, and it truly was, but most are unaware that I had no sparring before that match.

Everybody will see a far better Dinh Hong Quân this time, and I already know that I will deliver a lot of hurt to Arnel Baconaje. He is a tough boxer with power and skills, but I will break him.

It's a very good match, and I am very excited for it. I am very happy to have the challenge of stopping a top fighter like Baconaje in front of my home country. "

The Grand Ho Tram Resort and Casino has taken the initiative to make boxing big and glamorous in this part of the world, and have put together a super supporting card.

Philippines best boxer Charly Suarez (13-0) takes on Indonesia’s best in Defry Palulu (25-2) for the IBF Asia Super Featherweight crown. With Suarez as the current WBA Asia champ, and Palulu the WBC Asia trump, this IBF belt will resolve who is the region’s best. Charly Suarez has already beaten guys of the calibre of Oscar Vvaldez and Joe Cordina in the amateurs, and his team have strong designs on a world title challenge in 2023.

The WBO are also represented with an Oriental Youth title, featuring unbeaten South Korean prospect Chan-Ho Song (8-0) and Thailand’s destructive Anuson Thonglueang (12-1).

19 year old Song shapes as perhaps the best young talent that his country has produced in recent years, whilst his Thai counterpart, has won 12 on end after losing on debut. This 18 year old star has incredibly knocked out 9 of those opponents since the pandemic !

Vietnam legend Nguyen Van Hai has won 10 national titles as an amateur, and the “Hanoi Hitman” has now turned pro. He meets the unbeaten whiz kid Indonesian Paisal Panjaitan (3-0), in a bout which tests youthful power and exuberance against experience and ring craft.

Local Vietnam prospects also appear on the card against the likes of the Philippines Mark John Yap (3x OPBF champ), JonJon Estrada (Philippines top rated featherweight) and Jetro Pabustan (a former WBO world title contender) in what is sure to be an iconic night of boxing in Ho Tram

Fortunes of War is brought to The Grand Ho Tram courtesy of VSP Promotions and Cocky Buffalo, and will be sanctioned by the recently formed pro boxing regulator Vietnam Boxing Organisation.
