MATS Navigators is team to watch
By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Sun, 02 Oct 2022
THE MATS Navigators is also the team to watch in the coming ALDU Cup of the Davao del Norte Basketball League (DDNBL) on October 8 in Tagum.
Forward Clyde Gloria will still see action but the rest of Navigators are new ones.
Former star player Tommy Colladas is the new head coach while ex-Navigator Irvin Alterado is now the team manager.
“Were now at least 80 percent of our practice,” said Colladas.
The Navigators had returned to practice only last July due to the pandemic.
“Fortunately, the team manager is very supportive,” said Colladas.
Colladas said his team will be very competitive because they are “hungry” for a title in their comeback.
The Navigators beat the Agro Foundation College in the Davao City eliminations but they lost to the Holy Trinity College of General Santos City in the Finals 2019.
Colladas started as a player for the Navigators in 2005 until 2008. He joined the Montana Pawnshop commercial basketball team in 2009 to 2011.
Colladas then tried his skills with oil and worked for five years in Kuwait before he went back to join MATS as a coach.
MATS is in Bracket B together with Saint John Paul II, Davao Merchant Marine Academy, MATS Navigators, Brokenshire College and University of Mindanao Tagum.
Bracket A are Jose Maria College, Philippine Women’s College, Davao del Norte State College, UM Davao and UM Samal.
DDNBL Commissioner and SanMan Sports Foundation Chairman Arman Sañano said the games will also be played in Panabo, Samal and Davao City.
