Who's who in Philippine Chess duel via otb on Saturday By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Sat, 10 Sep 2022 MANILA---The 81st Birthday of Grandmaster/Lawyer Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. has attracted the names considered as who's who in Philippine Chess. Organized by Dr. Joe Carreon Balinas and Engr. Antonio Carreon Balinas, both co-founding chairman of Bayanihan Chess Club, it will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the 2nd floor Open Kitchen Foodhall, Rockwell Business Center, Sheridan Street, Mandaluyong City, infront of UNILAB. Around 100 participants are expected to compete in the 1 day National Chess Federation of the Philippine (NCFP) sanctioned tournament using the time control of 10 minutes plus 5 seconds increment. The organizing Bayanihan Chess Club announced that the participants will come from Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Cagayan de Oro City and Panabo City, Davao del Norte will also vie for medals in the country's biggest and most prestigious FIDE rated tournament, open to all players ages 14 years old and below. The one-day event is supported by Balinas Family, in close cooperation with Ms. China Aurelio and Ms. Mimi Casas of Open Kitchen. National Master Ivan Travis Cu of San Juan City is one of the frontliner of National Capital Region. National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca of Panabo City, Davao del Norte and Woman National Master Ruelle Canino of Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental are the top bets from Mindanao. National Master Oshrie Jhames “OJ” Reyes of Santa Rita, Pampanga will banner the Region III while National Master Al-Basher "Basty" Buto will parade the Rizal Province. No less than National Chess Federation of the Philippine (NCFP) Chairman/President Rep. Prospero "Butch" Arreza Pichay Jr. and Alekhine "Bbking" Nouri, who became world's youngest Fide Master at the age of seven have been invited to do the traditional ceremonial moves alongside representative from Balinas family, Bayanihan Chess Club legal counsel lawyer Rudy Rivera, Ms. China Aurelio and Ms. Mimi Casas of Open Kitchen.
