Pichay backs GM Balinas kiddies chess tourney

MANILA---National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) chairman/president Rep. Prospero “Butch” Arreza Pichay Jr. has thrown his full support behind the Grandmaster Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. 81st Birthday Chess Cup 14 years old kiddies rapid tournament slated on September 10, Saturday, 9 a.m. at the second floor Open Kitchen Foodhall, Rockwell Business Center, Sheridan Street, Mandaluyong City.

The tourney was organized by Bayanihan Chess Club headed by it's co-founding chairman Dr. Jose "Joe" Carreon Balinas and Engr. Antonio "Tony" Carreon Balinas in cooperation with Ms. China Aurelio and Ms. Mimi Casas of Open Kitchen and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines. It is also supported by GM Balinas family.

"Sincere thanks for our Hon. Pichay’s presence and support for our future Philippine Chess Hall of Fame Conqueror of Odessa GM Balinas’ continued quest to find and promote our young Filipino Talents and Chess Stars. The future of Philippine Chess." said GM Balinas younger brother Dr. Jose "Joe" Carreon Balinas.

"Good Luck po sa event. Thank you Chairman/President Pichay,it's an honour to have you as guest speaker.Maraming Salamat po,Mabuhay po kayo," said GM Balinas daughter Singapore based Rosalinda "Nur" Balinas.

Chief Arbiter Ranier Pascual of the Philippine Arbiters Chess Confederation (PACC) said the seven round Swiss system tournament will be played in a time control of ten (10) minutes with 5 seconds increment per move using the digital chess clocks with the winner taking home P10,000, second place P7,000, third place P5,200, fourth place P3,000, fifth place P2,000 and sixth to 15th places P1,000 each.

Special prizes of P1,000 each for the category winners in the Boys and Girls 12 years old and below, 10 years old and below, 8 years old and below and 6 years old and below.

No On-site Registration. Registration fee is P500.

National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca, Cyrus Luis Mahawan, Mar Aviel Carredo ,Gabriel Ryan Paradero and Vincent Ryu Dimayuga took time out from their busy schedule to head a talent-laden cast of young woodpushers playing in the GM Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. 14 years old and below Kiddies Chess Tournament.
Also playing are siblings Davin Sean and Danry Seth Romualdez, Bryce Sunga, Yvan Laurence Dumadag, David Francis Modesto, Marguel Soria Jr., Franze Ian Gabriel M. Vidal, Mhiles Ganzon, Jude Angelo Dableo, John Peter Allen Cabales, Keandra Amirah Aviso, Keira Alexandria Aviso, Joshua Broqueza, Raya Georgette Paradero , and Jacob Combalicer.-Marlon Bernardino-
