SALA SA INIT … SALA SA LAMIG: Mula sa pangkalahatang kampeon sa Maynila, pangatlo na lamang ang target ng Pilipinas sa Hanoi

Kulang-kulang isang linggo mula ngayong araw, sa Mayo 12, ay sisimulan nang ipagdiwang ang XXXI edisyon ng tuwing iklalawang taong Southeast Asian Games sa pangunahing siyudad ng Hanoi, Vietnam kung saan ay idedepensa ng Pilipinas ang pangkalahatang kameonatong naipanalo ng mga atletang Pilipino tatlong taon na ang nakalilipas dito mismo sa dalampasigang ito.

Maliban sa pahayag ni Philippine Olympikc Committee president, Cavite Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, na ang bansa ay magpapadala ng isang “fighting team” na handang ipagtanggol ang pangkalahatang korona sa bansang nagtatangka pang maka-rekober sa pakikidigma nito laban sa world power Estados Unidos, wala pang makatitiyak kung ano ang kahihihinatnan ng ating kampanya sa lupaing maitutururing na “unknown territory” sa ating mga atleta.

Katunayan, ang nahirang na chef de mission ng Pambansang Delegasyon na si Philippine Sports Commission Commissioner Ramon Fernandez, sa isang bukod na pahayag sa media, ay pangatlo lamang na pangkalahatan ang inaasahan niyang posibleng marating ng 987 miyembrong koponan.

Kung maisasalin ang ating silver medal production noong 2019, at bronze, posible ring maipagtanggol ng Pilipinas ang overall championship, ani Fernandez.

Bakit nga hindi?

Bagamat nauunawaan din daw niya na talagang dadaan sa karayom ang Pilipinas para maipanatili sa ating lupain ang pangkalahatang kampeonato. “A tough task considering that some of the sport disciplines that were in the 2019 calendar have been slashed in this year’s staging.“

Tukoy ni Fernandez ang arnis, isang sport na nagsimula sa Pilipinas kuing saan ay humakot ang mga Pinoy eskrimador ng 14 na gintong medalya, 4 at 2 bronze na dugtong niya’y mahirap mabawi kung hindi maisasalin sa ginto ang silver at bronze na nakamit natsin noong 2019.

“They (Vietnamess) have sports that they are expected to really be dominant,” ani Fernandez na lumipad noong Linggo patungong Hanoi kasama ang ilang opisyal ng delegasyon para sa ilang event, gaya ng football na nakatakdang magsimula ngayong araw.
