Sulaiman: Cuba's return is important to the boxing world

Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the World Boxing Council (WBC) said in the traditional WBC Coffee Tuesday that Cuba's return to professional boxing is a great decision and will be important for the boxing world.

"Cuban boxing has an extraordinary history and an exceptional contribution to world boxing. With this announcement of their entry into professional boxing, they will have to make their changes for this new stage, but we are sure that their boxers will be great challengers of the world champions. Now they must adapt to professionalism, but from now on I say that your boxers will be of great danger to all world champions," Sulaiman said.

Sulaiman explained his point of view after reading the statement issued on Monday by Alberto Puig, president of the Cuban Boxing Federation, announcing the return of Cuban boxing to professional boxing after exactly sixty years of being excluded.

"It is a historic, important and emotional moment because we know of Cuba's contribution at the time with its boxers who became great world champions and it is sensational to have made this decision," said Sulaimán.

It must be added that Mauricio Sulaiman, part of his childhood, was a regular fan of the fights between the Cuban world champions Ultiminio Ramos and Mantequilla Napoles who, when they went into exile, decided to choose Mexico as their second homeland and were idols in that country.
