Asenso Pinoy Chess online tourney set By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Thu, 07 Apr 2022 MANILA---THE Pinoy Open Online Blitz Chess Championship dubbed as Asenso Pinoy Online Chess Tournament is slated on April 16 and 17 via chess.com platform. The individual tournament is open to all players with free registration. First day is eliminations round to select the top 20 and the championship will be in the second round for the qualifiers plus the titled players. "Asenso Pinoy acknowledge more support for Sports and they choose Chess as one of the best and old discipline. With the proliferation of online chess games, it is fitting to have an online individual chess championship while still observing the pandemic protocols imposed by the government. The players can play and are encouraged to participate while in their homes," said tournament director NM Henry Roger Lopez. "As early, among Grandmasters, International Masters, Fide Masters and National Masters are the early participants for this unique template of the tournament. Asenso Pinoy is already thinking of Part 2 even before the first has yet to start," added tournament arbiter NA Ely Acas. Bannering the masters challenge in the tournament, backed by Asenso Pinoy Party list are Fide Master Austin Jacob Literatus, National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca, National Master Jonathan Tan and National Master Alexander Lupian of Davao City, Fide Master Vince Alaan and Cyrus Donasco of Surigao, National Master Levi Mercado and Woman National Master Ruelle Canino of Cagayan de Oro City and National Master Zulfikar Sali of Zamboanga City. The champion will earn P8,000. The second placer will get P4,000, third 2,000, fourth P1,000 and fifth P500.
