Magsayo said that he couldn't surpass the achievements of Manny Pacquiao but he can just follow the track that the eight division world champion had trodden.

“There’s no next Manny Pacquiao, there’s only one Manny Pacquiao and I’m following his footsteps,” said Magsayo as quoted by Inquirer Sports. “He’s my idol since I was a kid, he was my hero there in the Philippines. He’s my hero.”

Pacquiao is the only eight-division world champion in the history of boxing in this planet and has won twelve major world titles.

“No one can surpass the history of Manny Pacquiao but I’m following his footsteps now,” said Magsayo who is slated to defend his title against Mexico’s Rey Vargas, the WBC top contender. “I’m doing my best every training, every sparring, every fight. I’ll do my best to win every fight.

Trainer Freddie Roach does not want Pacquiao to be compared with any fighter but the Hall of Fame coach says there is one trait that Pacquiao and Magsayo are comparable.

“He has a lot of heart, he listens well in the gym, he trains hard. Like Manny Pacquiao, he’s a hard worker. The only reason Manny won eight world titles is because of his work ethic. His work ethic got him all the way there, and Mark is the same way,” said Roach ss quoted by Ring TV.

Magsayo said he provided his father his own bakery in their hometown in Tagbilaran City with the money he earned from his knockout victory of Julio Ceja on August 21. He said he will buy his father a house with the prize he earned from his title triumph over Russell.
