MASAM SPORTS 12: JADE BORNEA VS. MOHAMMED OBBADI TALE OF THE TAPE By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Fri, 14 Jan 2022 Jade Bornea will be fighting a high caliber boxer this Saturday, January 15 (Philippine time) against Mohammed Obbadi at the Auditorio Jacales in Monterrey, Mexico. The bout was declared as an elimination bout for the IBF junior bantamweight title of Jerwin Ancajas. At the 2013 Asian Boxing Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Subic, Zambales, Bornea won a third round stoppage of current IBF/WBA junior featherweight champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev. Then he won on points over future professional three-division champion Kosei Tanaka in the finals. Bornea has already foreseen that he was fighting in the amateurs with foes who will be wearing championship belts in the future. Bornea began boxing at age 10 under the tutelage of his grandfather. He has a twin brother Jake Bornea, who has a career record of 14-3-1 (7 KOs). Prior to tomorrow's fight, his only match outside the country, was a win over American Ernesto Delgadillo (11-1-2, 2 KOs) via a ten-round split decision on January 30, 2020 in a showdown of undefeated junior bantamweights in Toppenish, Washington, U.S. to win the vacant WBC-NABF superflyweight title. After that, he convincingly won by unanimous decision over Rolan Biendima last April 30 in a closed venue without crowd in General Santos City. Obbadi will be fighting outside of Europe for the first time, having fought all except one of his bouts in Italy, a six-round decision over Daniel Mendoza in Barcelona, Spain. Obbadi has fought mostly unknown opponents. His only popular opponent gave Obbadi his only career loss, a seventh-round stoppage to Cristofer Rosales of Managua, Nicaragua in Pordenone, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy on October 21, 2017. Rosales later won the WBC flyweight title six months later. “It will not be easy for Jade. Jade needs to be on his A-game. But I’m confident Jade wins. He trained so hard in Los Angeles,” said promoter Jim Claude Manangquil as told to The Ring. A very rigorous training was made under coaches Ernel Fontanilla and assistant Ting Ariosa, who also train former WBO bantamweight titleholder Marlon Tapales. Manangquil says they want to face another opponent for the title other than Ancajas. He added they could wait for Ancajas to move up to the next higher bantamweight division rather than fight a fellow Filipino for the IBF belt. But for Bornea, he will set his sights only on his coming fight. "I’m thinking about this fight first now. When I win, my manager will take care of it,” said Bornea. “I have worked so hard in the gym since my amateur career. This is my chance of a lifetime. I can’t afford to let it slip away. I will represent my country in Mexico and will come home with the win,” Bornea was quoted by Yahoo! Sports. He is so elated in signing with Probellum. "I am thrilled to be signing with Probellum,” said Bornea. “I now have the one-two punch I needed to succeed out of the ring. With Probellum and Sanman Boxing, I look forward to my upcoming IBF World Title Eliminator as just the start, with my ultimate goal to win the world title in 2022.” Jade Dajay Bornea Alias Hurricane Rank IBF No. 7 Age 26 Bouts 16 Wins 16 Losses 0 Draws 0 KOs 10 Rounds 77 KOs 62.5% Stance orthodox Official weight 114.5 lbs.
