Poirier defeats McGregor then promotes charitable housing project with Pacquiao By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 11 Jul 2021 Poirier (L) and McGregor in UFC 264. Minutes after picking up a TKO (Technical Knockout) victory against an old nemesis, Dustin Poirier promoted his foundation’s recent project which involved another ring warrior- the Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao. “Everybody, go to the Good Fight Group dot com. We are raising money. Me and Justin Wren, Manny Pacquiao. We are raising money to build housing in Uganda for the Pygmy people.” Poirier defeated Conor McGregor in the 3rd installment of their trilogy as the main event of the recently concluded UFC 264 which was held at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. An injury to Mcgregor’s left leg in the final seconds of Round 1 forced the referee to stop the contest after the advise of the doctors at ringside. Poirier earned his 20th UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) win and a future crack at the Lightweight championship. The Good Fight Foundation (thegoodfightgroup.com), a non-profit organization, was started by Poirier and his wife Jolie. The Poiriers raised money for various charitable causes in their hometown of Louisiana by auctioning off Dustin’s fight memorabilia. This time, Poirier has teamed up with Pacquiao and another MMA fighter in Wren (fightfortheforgotten.org) to help build houses for the Batwa Pygmies in Uganda, a country in East Africa. Poirier and Pacquiao both pledged 50,000 US dollars each through their respective foundations for the cause. Poirier will also be auctioning everything he wore in the octagon from his triumphant fight Saturday night to be added to the goal of the foundation. Pacquiao is currently training in Los Angeles for his August 21 fight against WBC (World Boxing Council) welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr. The fight will also take place at the T Mobile Arena in the famous Vegas strip. Pacquiao concluded the first week of his US training under Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym Saturday afternoon. This included physical conditioning, heavy bag work and mitt work between Pacquiao and Roach. The boxing icon then watched Poirier beat McGregor in his LA residence Saturday night.
