Nouri wins Balinas chess tourney By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Tue, 02 Mar 2021 FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri won the Grandmaster (GM) and Attorney Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. bullet online chess tournament last Monday, March 1, 2021 at lichess.org. The Escalante City, Negros Occidental bet Nouri, GenNouria, on Lichess, finished with 144 points in 65 games for a win rate of 63 percent and performance rating of 2698 to win the event that drew 585 players worldwide, being held as a part of 108 Birthday Celebration of the late Rosendo Padilla Balinas Sr.(father of the late GM and Atty. Rosendo Balinas Jr., US based frontliner Dr. Joe Balinas and Engr. Antonio "Uncle Paps" Balinas) and 59th Birthday Celebration of GM Joey Antonio Jr. The online tournament had time control of one minute play to finish and players must win as many games in two hours of play, according to US based frontliner Dr. Joe Balinas and Engr. Antonio "Uncle Paps" Balinas, both founding Honorary Chairman of the organizing Bayanihan Chess Club. The event was presented by Lichess Battle Arena, sponsored by GM Rosendo Balinas family in cooperation with Mr. Fernan Donguines of Hybreed Apparel Collections and National Chess Federation of the Philippines Chairman/President Rep. Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. The 15-years-old Nouri, fondly called "BBking" in the chess world, won 29 games, drew 18, and lost four games for his aggregate score and the P10,000 top purse. “I just try to make the most out of my opportunities and I’m thankful for all the blessings,” said Nouri, whose local and international online chess campaign is backed up by Sen. Manny Pacquiao, CAPEX Cargo Padala Express CEO/President Engineer Vergil J. Bargola and Ex-PBA player Zaldy Realubit. In June 2013, during the 14th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships 2013 in Thailand, Nouri claimed an outright FM title with his victory in the Open 8-under category thus making him as the youngest Filipino FIDE Master and the youngest FIDE Master in the world. Arizona, US based two-time Asian Junior Champion GM Rogelio "Banjo" Barcenilla Jr. took the second spot with 134 points on 62 games and a win rate of 71 percent on 36 wins for a performance rating of 2775 and the P5,000 second place prize. In third place is Candidate Master Chester Neil Reyes of Rodriguez, Rizal who had 126 points to went home P3,000 third place prize. Country's newest International Master Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmarinas City, Cavite and International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia of Manila finished fourth and 5th with 124 and 121 points, respectively.
