PH chess wizard "Basty" Buto to compete in FIDE Online World Cadets & Youth Rapid Chess Championships By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Wed, 25 Nov 2020 Manila, Philippines---PH chess wizard Al-Basher "Basty" Buto will showcase his talent in the FIDE Online World Cadets & Youth Rapid Chess Championships on November 27 to December 23, 2020. The 10 year old Buto, a grade five pupil of Faith Christian School in Cainta, Rizal Province, captivated the chess world by winning the 12th Asian Schools Chess Championships in Tehran, Iran in 2016. His local and international campaign is supported by Mr. and Mrs. Balce (Faith Christian School, Administrator), Mrs. Fredes Yap (Asst. Principal), Mrs. Susana Ronquillo (Asst. Principal) and Mrs. Marilou E. Habacon (School Director). Playing under the guidance of his American chess coach Dave Fenton, Buto won the 19th ASEAN International Age Group Chess Championship held in Davao City in 2018. He bagged the gold medal at the same time captured the Candidate Master title for his effort. “I will pour all that I know in the chess mind boggling games,” added Buto, who settled for a runner-up finish behind eventual champion Franiel Magpily of Makati City in the GM Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. Online Chess Tournament dubbed as 3 Years old Birthday Celebration of Baby Uno last Monday, November 23, 2020 at lichess.org. "His style is unlike anything I have seen since (American Grandmaster) Paul Morphy. In 2019, Buto also won the Boys 10 and under division title in the 4th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship held at Asia Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. The Filipino chess prodigy swept his seven matches to dominate the under-7 rapid bracket of the 13th Asian Schools Chess Championship in Panjin, China in 2017. He bagged another gold in the blitz category.
