SONNY BOY JARO RETAINS RP FLYWEIGHT CROWN By Tam Almeda PhilBoxing.com Sat, 01 Mar 2008 Binangonan, Rizal -- Sonny Boy Jaro successfully defended his RP Flyweight Title against challenger Julius Alcos in the ?Bugbugan sa Binangonan? boxing event held last night at the Ynarez Plaza in Binangonan, Rizal. The ?hungry? Jaro was challenged by manager Aljoe Jaro, who also manages RP Minimum weight champ Denver Cuello and North American Boxing Federation Super Bantamweight champ Bernabe Conception, to deliver a good fight for him to be able to fight in the US. The challenge was made and Jaro delivered with an exclamation point ? a TKO win over the very talented Alcos. A powerful left hook to the chin sent Alcos to the canvass in the 4th round. He got up by the time the referee reached the count of 8 but was still wobbly; prompting his corner to signal the stoppage to the referee. The fight was stopped at 3? of the fateful round. Other results: A Split Draw was the result of the Arman Casa-Roy Doliguez fight in the flyweight division. Both fighters were at it in the early rounds to the delight of the crowd. A left hook on the right side of his face caused a small cut on Doliguez?s right eyebrow. In the 4th, both fighters clashed heads resulting in a cut on the right eyebrow for Casa and a cut in the forehead for Doliguez. It was bleeding badly in the 5th which prompted the ring physician to recommend to the referee the fight stoppage. Fight was stopped at 1?20? in the 5th. The scores were 48 ? 48, 48 ? 47 for Doliguez, and 48 ? 47 for Casa. Junel Alivio won by a Technical Majority Decision over opponent Richard Laano when the referee, upon the ring physician?s advise, stopped the fight at 2?26? in the 8th round. Alivio was bleeding badly from a cut in the forehead after a clash of heads. Scores were 76 ? 76 and 76 ? 75 twice for Alivio. The fight was scheduled for 10 rounds in the super bantamweight division. Another disappointing Technical draw occurred when Leonardo ?Toto? Doronio got a bad cut on his lower left eyebrow after clashing his head against opponent Ronald Pontillas in their 8-round 123-lb fight. It was a fight of undefeateads. Ronelle Fereras again displayed his power winning by KO over Edwin Tumbaga. Three consecutive uppercuts to the right abdomen area floored Tumbaga. The referee stopped the fight upon reaching the count of 10 1?58? in the 1st. It was scheduled for 8 in the minimum weight division. The flamboyant Marvin Sonsona won by TKO when opponent Roy Jones, JR refused to continue after being floored from an uppercut to the abdomen area. It was a 109-lb fight scheduled for 6. The fight was stopped at 1?19? in the 4th. Two consecutive punches to the abdomen area sent Alejandro Anas to the canvass. He was grimacing in pain and almost rolled out of the ring after opponent Dan Nazareno, JR floored him. He also fell from a hard straight courtesy of Nazareno in the same round. The fight was stopped at 2?46? in the 2nd. The fight was scheduled for 6 in the 135-lb division. Jose Ocampo won by Majority Decision over opponent Gerlyn Cuma in their 4-round fight in the featherweight division. Scores were 38 ? 38, 40 ? 36, and 39 ? 37. Dalmatian Diaz got floored in the 1st from a hard right hook to the chin from opponent Emilio Ervas in their 120 lb 4-round match.
