NBA -- Melo honored as West's Player of the Week

PORTLAND -- Carmelo Anthony was honored as the Western Conference Player of the Week for his part in helping the Portland Trail Blazers go on a 3-0 romp last week,

The 10-time All-Star, who played all but 10 games with the Rockets last season, averaged 17.7 points per game since joining the Blazers on a partially-guaranteed contract worth $2.5 million last November 19.

Honored by the recognition, Melo asserts that he only has begun.

"I feel good -- just because I'm 35 years old and I'm supposed to be, you know, the book says you're supposed to be retired around this time? Like, like no. I've always been against all odds. I just had a year off. I had a year off restin' my body." Anthony told Rachel Nichols of ESPN.

After an awful start to the season in which they fell to 5-12, the Trail Blazers have improved to 8-12 and will hope to extend their winning strak to four today when they face the Clippers at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
