NBA Daily: Clippers Cruise Past Dallas 114-99 Behind George’s 17 First Quarter Points

PhilBoxing.com

Boracay Island, Philippines – Paul George buried four treys in the first quarter alone to set the tone early for the visiting Los Angeles Clippers and register an easy 114-99 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning, Philippine time) at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

He made 17 of his 26 points during that hot stretch and finished with a career high 6 steals. Kawhi Leonard also amassed 28 markers for the Clippers. George and Leonard, two of the league’s best two-way players, displayed their dominance opposite emerging star Luka Doncic, whose streak of four games with at least 30 points and 10 assists was snapped.

The 20-year-old phenom finished with 22 points, 8 boards, and 6 dimes, but shot a dismal 4-for-14 from the field. Clippers head coach Doc Rivers employed multiple covers for Doncic, who got most of his production from the charity stripe on a 14-for-16 shooting. He also committed 7 of the Mavs’ 20 turnovers.

Kristaps Porzingis’ shooting accuracy left a lot to be desired as well, making only four of his thirteen field goal attempts. The 7-foot-3 Latvian also grabbed 10 rebounds for the Mavericks, who were held to less than 100 points for the first time this season and dropped to 11 wins and 6 losses.

The Mavericks will travel to Phoenix to face the Suns on Friday night (Saturday morning, Philippine time) and start their second three-game road trip.

Meanwhile, the Clippers, who improved to a 13-5 win-loss record, will travel to Memphis to tussle with the Grizzlies on Wednesday night (Thursday morning, Philippine time).

How they scored:

Clippers 114 – Leonard 28, George 26, Williams 21, Harrell 12, Zubac 11, Green 5, McGruder 4, Beverly 3, Harkless 2, Robinson III 2

Mavericks 99 – Doncic 22, Prozingis 15, Curry 13, Barea 12, Powell 10, Hardaway Jr. 8, Finney-Smith 7, Marjanovic 4, Brunson 4, Wright 4
