NBA -- Irving-less Nets squeak past Bulls
By Japheth Bandi PhilBoxing.com Mon, 18 Nov 2019

CHICAGO -- Even without Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets proved to be good enough to beat the Chicago Bulls on Friday night, scoring a hard-fought 1117-111 victory at the United Center.
The Nets jumped to a 23-10 start, forcing head coach Jim Boylen to call two quick timeouts and said during his post-game press conference that the slow start was "unacceptable."
The Bulls did show signs of life, knotting the count at 35-all on a Wendell Carter Jr jumper off a Coby White assist, before going on a 37-20 run to take a 56-50 halftime lead.
But the Nets, who were led by former Bull Spencer Dinwiddie's 24 points, turned the tables in the second half by outscoring Chicago 67-55 the rest of the way to come up with the victory.
Joe Harris had 22 points and eight boards for Brooklyn while big man DeAndre Jordan and Nicolas Claxton combined for 15 points and 10 rebounds while Taurean Prince finished with 13 and hit big shots down the stretch to help hold the rallying Bulls at bay.
Zach LaVine led the Bulls with 36 points on 11-of-24 shooting while Carter added 18 points and 14 rebounds. Lauri Markkanen added 16 points and 10 boards
"They didn't have their best player. We didn't come out and play how we would have played if he was playing. (We gotta) be more mature about these situations."
The Bulls fell to 4-9 while the Nets improved to 5-7.
The Bulls will try to bounce back on Monday (Tuesday AM, Philippine time) when they host reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. The Nets, meanwhile, will head back to the Barclay's Center in New York to host the Indiana Pacers also on Monday.
