GAB RAMPS UP PHILIPPINE TITLE FIGHTS

PhilBoxing.com

GAB chairman Abraham Mitra.

The strong determination of Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to fill the five (5) vacant Philippine championship titles was speedily felt as Pinoy boxing promoters and managers immediately heeded to GAB’s call to promote Philippine championship boxing events.

Ar-ar Andales of Cavite City is scheduled to have a 12-round boxing match against Joel Lino of Davao City on November 15, 2019 to fight for vacant Minimum-weight title in Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro. While Chris Paulino of Rizal and Wilbert Berondo of Parañaque City will face off on December 14, 2019 to fight for vacant Super-Flyweight Championship belt at The Flash Ballroom, Elorde Sports Center, Sucat, Parañaque City; Al Toyogon of Misamis Oriental and Marbon Bodiongan of Lipa City are also destined to have a ferocious battle for Super-Featherweight crown next month.

Genesis Libranza, however, was stripped off his flyweight title after his failure to defend the same within the period of one year from date of his last defense on October 14, 2018. According to Article 20 of the Amended Manual Governing Professional Boxing in the Philippines, a champion must defend his title within six (6) months after acquiring or successfully defending such title, provided there is a worthy challenger and promoter to stage the contest; however, in no case shall the period for defending a title exceed twelve (12) months from the date of acquiring said title. Failure to defend the title shall be sufficient ground for the Board to declare the title vacant.

Meanwhile, Chairman Baham Mitra, Commissioner Mar Masanguid and Commissioner Ed Trinidad are all elated by the instant response from boxing promoters to stage Philippine Championship matches, and GAB boxing division is all-set now to facilitate the said upcoming bouts.

GAB ratings committee released the official ranking for the month of October and proclaimed five (5) champions: Giovanni Escaner of Paranaque City as the Philippine (GAB) Bantamweight (118 lbs) Champion, Mark Anthony Geraldo of Valencia City, Bukidnon as Philippine (GAB) Super- Bantamweight (122 lbs) Champion, , Roldan Aldea of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental as Philippine (GAB) Lightweight (135 lbs) Champion, Jheritz Chavez of San Pedro, Laguna as the Philippine (GAB) Super Lightweight (140 lbs) Champion, and Jayar Inson of Davao City as the Philippine (GAB) Welterweight (147 lbs) Champion.

The ‘Boxer of the Month’ distinction was bestowed upon Junriel Ramonal by GAB rating committee. The recognition was given following his knockout win against WBC World number 2 fighter and Japan boxing superstar Shingo Wake last October 11, 2019 in Tokyo, Japan.

Ramonal’s success was indeed a death knell for Wake as Pinoy pride outranked him in WBC ranking; Ramonal successfully secured a spot in WBC superbantamweight rankings as he ranked 25 in said division, while Wake’s ranking collapsed on the ground.
