Canelo-Kovalev Complete Weigh-in Report and Photos

PhilBoxing.com

MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas: Early this afternoon at this glitzy sin city, Golden Boy Promotions and its partners held the official weigh-in for tomorrow's big slam-bang affair.

Canelo Alvarez (52-2-2, 35 KO) stepped on the scales first and registered 174.5 lbs. just under the contract weight limit of 175 lbs.

Then WBO Light Heavyweight champion, Sergey Kovalev took his turn. It took the commissioner a few minutes viewing the scales with Canelo?s team watching him with an eagle eye. But alas, Kovalev came in initially at 176 lbs. You should have heard the crowd when his weight was announced. Then he walked away to get a towel because now he had to step on the scales butt naked. Still he was 175.25. He was given an hour to lose the weight which no doubt he will do.

Canelo on the scales.

Sergey Kovalev tries to weigh naked after coming in overweight on the first try.

With the weight issues of Kovalev, there is no doubt the odds will change at the bookmakers desks. Kovalev seem drained and that is no good given that his opponent is in excellent shape, not to mention can hit really hard.

But we shall see tomorrow.

It was interesting to note that as the champion, Kovalev, was introduced first. That tells the crowd who the A-Side fighter is.

Ryan Garcia and Romero Duno pose during Friday's weighin.

In the supporting main event, Golden Boy's golden egg Ryan Garcia (18-0-0, 15KO) of Victorville CA and his opponent, the Philippines' great hope Romero Duno (21-1-0, 16KO) both came in at 135 lbs.

In a featured ladies fight for the vacant WBA Interim Flyweight belt, undefeated Seneisa Estrada (17-0-0,7KO) battles fellow undefeated fighter, ex Olympian Marlen Esparza (7-0-0,1KO).

This is a fight worth seeing as bad blood exists between the two fighters starting from the ugly incident during the fighter's arrival last Tuesday when Estrada pushed Esparza down. Estrada came in at 110.5 and Esparza at 111lbs.

Blair Cobbs and Carlos Ortiz.

In a fight for the vacant NABF welterweight belt Blair Cobbs (12-0-1 8KO) meets Carlos Ortiz (11-4-0, 11KO). Cobbs was 147 and Ortiz, 146 lbs.

The rest of the card:

Evan Hollyfield 154 lbs vs Nick Winstead 154 lbs

Bakhram Mutazaliev 154 lbs vs Jorge Fortea 153.5

Tristan KalKreuth 188 lbs vs Twom Smith 188.5

Meiirim Nursultanov 160 lbs vs Cristian Olivas 160 lbs

Bektemir Melikuziev 174.5 vs Clay Collard 171.5
