Broner Snubs Wildcard Gym Media Day

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES: While Filipino World Boxing Association welterweight champion was having a feast day enjoying his moments with members of media on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila), his challenger, Adrien Broner held his own meeting with the press in a separate gym across town.

It was an apparent snub of what was supposed to be a pre-fight affair in sweet science sponsored by the promoters.

He was supposed to arrive at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood to play second fiddle to Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday but Broner stood his ground and instead staged his own media day in a different gym across town.

The promoters had earlier sent out a media alert announcing that Pacquiao and Broner would alternately hold open workouts at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood with the challenger taking his turn first followed by champ an hour following.

But it appeared Broner, known for breaking protocols and even laws that often put him in trouble many times, had none of it and decided to bring his act elsewhere.

?What they was (sic) trying to do to me, they don?t got to do for me,? Broner was quoted as saying by way of explaining his unsportsmanlike conduct.

Adrien 'The Problem' Broner held his own media day away from the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood where it was supposed to be held.

Broner?s unexpected absence led the belt-owner, who was supposed to have his turn at 1 p.m., the luxury of taking his sweet time, arriving at past 3 o?clock to a warm welcome of boxing writers from all over the world.

It was only after the customary Q&A sessions and light training that several newsmen and women drove 12 miles to Van Nuys to see Broner do his thing at the Ten Goose Gym where the American fighter dissed his Filipino foe no end with his usual badmouthing.

Clearly, though, Pacquiao appeared to have emerged the winner from Broner?s miscalculated scheme as many of those believers and non-believers, who decided to stay enjoyed exchanging banters with the Filipino for the duration of the time alloted him that lasted no less than three hours.

?I have enough star power to say, ?Hey I am doing my own media day.? If they do this with another fighter, everybody would have showed up. But not with me,? the 29-year-old Cincinnati kid.

The handwriting is on the wall and once he beats the WBA 147-lb champion, he will become ?a legend overnight.?

?He slipped a few times and he didn?t get up. But he knows his boxing. I am pretty sure he is training and he?s got goals but I am here to fuck his plans up.?

Broner, a four-division titleholder, trained almost exclusively in West Palm Beach in Florida.
