Is Pacquiao-Mayweather II dead?

PhilBoxing.com

Mayweather and Pacquiao in Tokyo last September.

If the coming Manny Pacquiao-Adrien Broner World Boxing Association welterweight championship bout is designed to serve as a prelude to a lucrative Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. rematch, the Filipino titleholder looks in for a big surprise.

And disappoint boxing fan worldwide who are expecting their favorite fighters face off anew and break all existing records in gate receipts and pay per view records as they did in their first encounter.

In an Instagram he posted live moments before his exhibition match against Japanese Tenhin Nasukawa in Japan, the 50-0 record holder Mayweather said:

?I?m retired. I?m just having a little fun entertaining my fans but I?m still going to pick up that bag (of cash) and have a little fun for nine minutes.?

The undefeated American may not totally be ruling out the Pacquiao II fight, but when asked inside his dressing room after knocking out his young 20-year old opponent in the first round, if he was, indeed, coming back from retirement, he did confirm he won?t be.

?I?m not coming back. I?m still retired. I just came over here (to Japan) as they got a little guy who is shorter than me,? Mayweather said as reported by Niall Doran of Boxing News.

Earlier this year, Mayweather announced on his social media channels that he intended to comeback to fight Pacquiao in a grudge rematch following his unanimous decision win over the Filipino former world pound-for-pound king in 2015.

This followed by a meeting between the two captured on video at a concert in Tokyo.

He then changed his tune pretty abruptly, however, and instead took part in an exhibition fight for a reported nine million dollars in a little over two minutes work.

True to his name, Mayweather changes his plans like the weather and no one ever really knows what his real plans are or what he?s really up to.

Except for his close circle. So it?s not really a surprise if he changes his mind again and does want to comeback for a Pacquiao rematch next year.

The whole thing just seems like a bit of publicity on social media.

If Pacquiao beats Broner I?d be shocked if the Mayweather rematch doesn?t happen as it would still make a lot of money for both.

For the meantime, Pacquiao must first get past Broner on January 19th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to keep any hopes of the rematch with Mayweather alive.
