WU BEATS JENGO, LIU STOPS MANAKANE IN CHONGQING By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Mon, 24 Dec 2018 CHONGQING, CHINA ? Wu Ju of Jinan, China battled a game and resilient Salimu Jengo of Tanga, Tanzania and came out on top by unanimous decision. Wu was awarded the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Youth lightweight title and remained unbeaten at 6-0-2, 0 KO. It was a fast paced affair highlighted by furious exchanges. Wu, however got the better of the East African in terms of volume. But Jengo continued to press, much to the delight of the home fans who were treated to an entertaining eight round contest. Wu had his best round in the sixth, landing hard blows to the body and head but Jengo remained on his feet. The scores ? Han Hongxiang (China) ? 78-74, Michelle Ng (Macao) ? 78-74, Surat Soikrachang (Thailand) ? 79-74. The Tanzanian drops to 12-3, 8KO?s. The referee was Mekin Sumon from Thailand. The WBO regional bout was supervised by WBO VP for Asia Pacific Leon Panoncillo. The main bout saw Liu Zhong of China winning by TKO over Indonesian Ruben Manakane in two rounds. A close quarter engagement in the middle of the ring resulted in Manakane?s head slamming hard to the canvas. Thai referee Pichit Wongporamet waived off the fight seeing Manakane was in no condition to continue. Time 1:39. Manakane was dazed inside the ring but was able to walk to the dressing room on his own. Liu won the vacant WBC ABCO superbantamwieght title. The WBC ABCO supervisor was Damrong Simakajornboon from Thailand. For the undercard matches: Filipino Ivor Lastrilla lost by TKO in the fifth round to Sheng Yongchao of China. Both boxers exchanged hooks and uppercuts from the opening bell but Sheng?s edge in power emerged as the rounds progressed. A series of body and head shots made Lastrilla take a half turn before going down hard in the fifth. Referee Han Hongxiang correctly stopped it at 2:33. Zhou Bin knocked down George Lumoly (Indonesia) in the second round and cruised to a comfortable six round unanimous decision win. Nurmammet Tekayev (Turkmenistan) got a unanimous verdict against Pan Bocheng in four rounds. Brothers Chao Lemen and Chao Ke opened the show with a four round exhibition bout. The fights were held at the Wansheng Binjiang Rd Venue in Chongqing and officiated by the Professional Boxing Commission (PBC) of China.
