BAISHANBO BEATS ESPAÑA; ZONGLI EDGES ASTROLABIO; JITPONG UPSETS MORTON IN CHONGQING By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sun, 16 Dec 2018 CHONGQING, CHINA- Baishanbo Nasiyiwula of China survived a wild opening round to prevail by technical decision over Ernesto Espa?a of Venezuela in their clash for the vacant WBC International super lightweight title. A flurry of punches dropped Baishanbo early in the first round. He immediately got up and then a clash of heads opened a long cut along Espa?a?s right temple near the outer corner of his eye. The fight was allowed to continue because the blood was not going into the Venezuelan?s right eye. In the closing seconds of round one, Baishanbo knocked down Espa?a and sent the partisan crowd cheering as the bell rang. Baishanbo was the more accurate boxer in the subsequent rounds and took the lead in the scorecards. But blood continued to stream from the deep cut, the bout was eventually stopped in the seventh. Baishanbo won by technical decision with scores of 68-64, 68-65 and 69-63. Baishanbo is now 15-2-1, 6KO?s. Espa?a drops to 26-2-1,21KO?s. In a tough see-saw battle, He Zongli of China beat Vincent Astrolabio of the Philippines by majority decision for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific junior bantamweight title. There was little to separate both boxers in the first four rounds of the tactical contest, in fact they were even in all the scorecards. But He began to use his longer reach and scored with his jab and one-two combos in the middle rounds, building a slight lead. Neither boxer was hurt significantly, Astrolabio applied pressure but Zongli?s accuracy in the endgame pulled it off. The scores ? Michelle Ng (Macao)- 96-94, Mekin Sumon (Thailand) ? 95-95, Edward Ligas (Philippines) ? 96-94. Astrolabio drops to 12-2, 8KO?s while Zongli is now 5-0,1KO. Thai Jutamas Jitpong upset the previously unbeaten Casey Morton of the U.S.A. for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific female junior bantamweight title. Morton relied on aggressiveness and body punching but Jitpong?s pinpoint counterpunching and movement made her build a wide lead. Morton made a last ditch stand in the tenth but it was too little too late. Scores ? Edward Ligas ? 96-94, Macao judges Mark Leong and Michelle Ng both had it 99-91. Morton is now 7-1-3,1KO while Jitpong improves to 5-2,2KO?s. There were four more bouts on the undercards with Chinese boxers Zhou Rui Dong, Su Xiao Tao and Zhng Qi Xiu coming up with wins and YuYou Gu having a draw.
