TUOLEHAZI TOPPLES RAQUINEL IN CHANGSHA

PhilBoxing.com

CHANGSHA, CHINA- Wulan Tuolehazi of China knocked down Filipino Jay-R Raquinel in the twelfth and final round and won by unanimous decision in their battle for the vacant WBC Silver flyweight title.

The southpaw Raquinel gave Wulan trouble early in the fight and neither landed a significant punch in the early going. Tuolehazi scored with his right hand lead in the third but in the fifth Raquinel staggered the Chinese and landed a barrage of punches sending Tuolehazi in survival mode.

But Wulan weathered the storm and came back piling up the points with pinpoint accuracy. After seven rounds, Wulan was ahead on all the judges cards. In the eighth round, he began to target Raquinel?s midsection. Raquinel tried to mount a rally but Tuolehazi finished strong.

The knockdown in the final round was icing on the cake that sent the partisan crowd roaring.

The scores were 116-111,117-111,116-111.

This was the first career loss for Raquinel who drops to 10-1-1,7Ko?s. Tuolehazi is now 9-3-1,4Ko?s.

In the card?s main bout, Chinese Heavyweight Zhang Zhilei (20-0,16KO?s) remained unbeaten after stopping American Don Haynesworth (15-3-1,13KO?s) in three rounds. Zhang retained his WBO Oriental title (see separate story).

The card had three more regional bouts ? Rivan Cesaire of Australia beat China?s Yang Xingxin by split decision for the WBA Asia welterweight title, Wang Zhimin beat Indonesian Hero Tito by unanimous decision for the WBC ABCO lightweight titleand Wang Jiangzheng (China) stopped Panya Chompoophuang (Thailand) for the WBA asia cruiserweight title in one round.
This fight card was promoted by Liu Gang?s Max Power Promotions and Glory Promotions Shi Niu Wu.
