"We'll bring home the bacon" - Buboy

PhilBoxing.com

GENERAL SANTOS CITY ? Manny Pacquiao?s training team dispensed with Wednesday?s workout to prepare the eight-division world champion for a heavier load in sparring Thursday and Saturday.

Except for a scheduled conditioning session inside the basketball gym within the confine of Pacquiao family?s residence here, the entire afternoon activities at the Pacman Wild Card Gym were cancelled.

Wednesday morning?s supposed to be light session turned out to be not one might thought it was as that included plyometric exercises that were also energy-sapping, especially to those not used to them.

?Those were good exercises although we have to still put up some energy performing them, they improve your leg coordination with the upper body,? George Kambosos Jr., Pacquiao?s Australian sparring partner who will be fighting in the Pacquiao-Lucas Matthysse card, attested.

Matthysse is putting his World Boxing Association welterweight belt on the block on the July 15 encounter with Pacquiao at the ?Battle of Champions? offering of the Manny Pacquiao Promotions in coordination with the Oscar DeLa Joya Promotions in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

The ?Fighting Senator?s? preparation program resumes Thursday with the former World Boxing Organization 147-pound kingpin strutting anew his wares against Kambosos and two Filipino mates ? Arnel Tinampay and Jericho Chavez for 10 rounds.

A heavier 12-round skirmish, also against the trio, is scheduled on Saturday after which, according to chief trainer Buboy Fernandez and American consultant Justin Fortune, the load will be lessened next week.

With still three weeks remaining in preparations both Buboy and Fortune assured that their famous pupil has already attained their target elevating Pacquiao to the top of his game following a year of hibernation from boxing being now a lawmaker.

?Yeah, I would say he?s in an 80 per cent to 85 per cent ready as of today,? Fortune asserted. ?That?s why starting next week, we?ll start tapering off the frequency of training, particularly in the sparring aspect of the program.?

Buboy, echoed Fortune?s assessment. ?Mahirap namang magsabi na 100 per cent nang ready si Manny. Para namang wala nang magagawang improvement pa. Fact is, there will still be a little bit more to be done.?

?Pagdating ng laban natin makikita kung ano-ano ang mga ito. All I can say is, for every drop of sweat ozzing from our bodies daily in training, ay hindi puwedeng walang mangyaring maganda.?

?Pinipilit naming lahat, from coach Justin, to Nonoy (Neri), Haplas (Fernandez)ad everybody helping us ? Dodong (Donaire r.), (Ting (Ariosa), Dodie Boy (Penalosa) and Jonathan (Penalosa) -- na pagbalik namin sa Pilipinas, dala namin ang korona,? Buboy assured. (ENDIT)
