ANCAJAS-SULTAN FEATS, FACTS AND FIGURES PART I

Jerwin Juntilla Ancajas was born on New Year's Day January 1, 1992 at Panabo, Davao del Norte. Nicknamed "Pretty Boy," he has been the IBF junior bantamweight champion since September 2016. As of July 2017, he is ranked as the No. 6 junior bantamweight in the world by The Ring, No. 5 by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and No.8 by BoxRec. Ancajas is the first world champion promoted by MP Promotions of Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Ancajas holds a professional record of 29 wins, 20 by KO, 1 loss and 1 draw. It will be the second fight for Ancajas since signing a contract with Top Rank. Ancajas fought his professional debut on July 2009. Ancajas suffered a loss in his fifteenth pro bout, losing a majority decision to Mark Anthony Geraldo.

Ancajas was introduced to the fundamentals boxing in the second grade by his brother, Jesar. Jerwin went on to win several national championships, including a gold medal at the Palarong Pambansa, before turning pro in 2009, at the age of 17. Jerwin has a 90-5 record as an amateur boxer.

Ancajas (29-1-1, 20 KOs) becomes the newest Filipino boxing sensation since he won the IBF junior bantamweight title when he defeated McJoe Arroyo on September 3, 2016. Ancajas clearly outboxed Arroyo, and dropped him in round 8 to win a unanimous decision. He is successful in four title defenses in different countries, Jose Alfredo Rodriguez by 7th round TKO in Macau, Teiru Kinoshita by 7th round TKO in Australia, Jamie Conlan by 6th round TKO in Northern Ireland and Israel Gonzalez by 10th round TKO in the U.S.

Jonas Andaya Sultan was born on December 16, 1991 in Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte, has been the IBF intercontinental junior bantamweight title since December 2016 by beating South Africa's Makazole Tete. As of December 2017, he is ranked as the No.10 best junior bantamweight in the world by The Ring, and No.8 by BoxRec. Sultan is promoted by ALA Promotions of Cebu City.

Sultan is ranked No. 6 by BoxRec in the superflyweight division by virtue of his wins over former champions Sonny Boy Jaro and Casimero, and a knockout victory over Zolani Tete?s brother Makazole in 2016. Sultan has a professional record of 14 wins, 9 by KO, 3 losses and 0 draw.

His first loss was dealt by Rolando Servania by a six-round split decision on July 21, 2013 at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports (BAYS) Center, Bacolod City. His second loss was by Jonathan Francisco again on a six-round split decision on June 28, 2014 at the Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium,Tubod, Lanao del Norte. His latest loss was to Go Onaga of Japan by a ten-round unanimous decision last November 15, 2015 at the City Gym, Tomigusuku Oro City, Japan.

It will be the first time two Filipino boxers are matched for a world title fight since Pancho Villa defended his crown against Clever Sencio in 1925 at Wallace Field, the place of which is now Luneta Park in Manila. It was Villa?s penultimate fight before his death. The Ancajas-Sultan bout will also be the first all-Filipino title fight in U.S. history and will it be Sultan?s first contest in American soil.
