Villanueva once held the WBO Asia Pacific super flyweight title, the WBO international super flyweight title, the IBF international jr. bantamweight title, and the WBC international super flyweight title.

On July 19, 2015, "King Arthur" lost a controversial technical decision to former Olympian Mcjoe Arroyo for the vacant IBF superflyweight title.
