IMs Pascua, Dimakiling and Roque remain in contention in 45th Selangor Open Chess

Filipino International Masters Haridas Pascua and Oliver Dimakiling and National Master Merben Roque put themselves in contention in the ongoing 45th Selangor Open Chess Tournament 2018 being held at the Grand Ballroom, 5th floor, Cititel Mid Valley Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Victory in Saturday's seventh round gave Pascua 5.5 points to gain a share for the second to 5th spots that includes Dimakiling, Roque and Malaysian Chan Kim Yew.
The Mangatarem, Pangasinan native and Baguio-based Pascua-who has five wins, a draw and a loss - defeated compatriot IM Emmanuel Senador of Iloilo City.
The pride of Cebu Roque agreed to a draw with Chan Kim Yew while former solo leader Davao bet Dimakiling yielded to IM Marcos Llaneza Vega of Spain.
With two rounds left, Llaneza Vega grabs the lead with 6.0 points.
GM Buenaventura "Bong" Villamayor of Mauban, Quezon province, IM Hamed Nouri of Escalante City, Negros Occidental, National Master Efren Bagamasbad of Quezon City, Ian Cris Udani of Bacolod City, Negros Occidental and Hongkong-based Edgardo Borigas led the huge group of five pointers, a good for a tie at 6th to 16th place.
