MINNEAPOLIS - The visiting Houston Rockets proved why they are the NBA's most explosive team.
The Rockets crushed the Timberwolves in front of their home fans 119-100 Monday night (Tuesday Morning RP Time) in Game 4 of their round-one series at the jampacked Target Center.
Rockets go-to-guy and MVP candidate James Harden hauled in 36 points including 22 in the 3rd period.
The Rockets' 50-point 3rd quarter eruption is the second-best in playoffs history, next only to the LA Lakers' 51-point in one quarter production in 1962 against Detroit Pistons.
Harden and Chris Paul combined for 37 points of the 50 points 3rd period of the Houston Rockets. Harden and the Rockets started slow before opening the flood gates following a 21-21
The Timberwolves trailed 50-49 at the half. But at the start of the 3rd period Harden, Paul, PJ Tucker and Eric Gordon had back-to-back treys.
The Houston supporting cast also contributed. Center Clint Capela 14 points and 17 boards, Chris Paul 25, Eric Gordon 18 and Trevor Ariza 15.
Meanwhile the Timberwolves center and 2016 Rookie of the Year Karl-Anthony Towns produced 22 points and 15 rebounds, Jimmy Butler had 19 points and 9 rebounds, Derrick Rose 17 and Andrew Wiggins 14.
Game 5 will be on Wednesday night (Thursday morning Philippine Time) at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, State, USA. The winner between Houston-Minnesota will face the winner of Oklahoma City Thunder vs Utah Jazz. (DQG)
