The first four fights on the undercard of the Oscar Valdez vs Scott Quigg WBO featherweight title fight at the StubHub Center Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) ended in abbreviated fashion as the favorites all ended the proceedings in the very first round. Bryan Lua (4-0-0, 4KOs) of Madera, CA opened the night with quick stoppage over Jesus Arevalo of Sierra Vista, AZ at 1:21 of the first round in their 4-round scheduled lightweight bout. This was followed by Mikaela Mayer (4-0-0, 3KOs) of Los Angeles, CA who had even a shorter time disposing off Maria Semertzoglou of Greece at 35 seconds of the first round sixth round lightweight bout. In the 3rd fight for the 8-round scheduled heavyweight bout, comebacking Andy Ruiz (30-1-0, 20KOs) of Imperial, CA stopped Devin Vargas (20-5-0, 8KOs) of Toledo, Ohio at 1:38 seconds of the first round. Brazilian Olympian Esquiva Falcao (20-0-0, 14KOs) then waylaid Salim Larbi (20-9-2, 7KOs) of France at 2:09 of the first round in their 10-round scheduled middleweight contest. In the fifth fight for WBA-NABA, WBO-NABO Super Lightweight Title scheduled for 10 rounds, undefeated Alex Saucedo (27-0-0, 17KOs) of Oklahoma City knocked out Abner Lopez (25-9-0, 21KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico in the 7th round to retain his titles. Lopez landed big punches and Saucedo was cut over the eye. Despite the cut and being on the receiving end of some big punches, Saucedo rocked Lopez with a huge right in the sixth round. A crunching left hook to the body by Saucedo the seventh finished Lopez. Referee Raul Caiz Sr waved it off at 1:18. Alex Saucedo vs Abner Lopez. Arnold Barboza Jr vs Mike Reed. In the sixth fight for 8-round super flyweights bout, Arnold Barboza Jr (18-0-0, 6KOs) of Los Angeles, CA defeated Mike Reed (23-2-0, 12KOs) of Waldorf, Maryland by unanimous decision. Scores: 97-93, 97-93 and 96-94 all in favor of Barboza Jr. In the seventh fight and main undercard for the vacant WBC Continental Americas and vacant WBO International featherweight titles, undefeated fighters Andy Vences (20-0-1, 12KOs) of San Jose, CA and Erick de Leon (17-0-1, 10KOs) of Detroit, Michigan via Sabina, Mexico fought to a majority draw in their 10-round fight with neither fighter won any of the belts. Two judges scored the fight at 95-95 even while the third judge had it 96-94 for De Leon. |
