Dexter Alimento Successful in 30-day Mandatory Weigh-in for WBC Int'l Title Againts Deejay Kriel in South Africa By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Fri, 23 Jun 2017  Filipino former WBC 105-Lbs Youth Champion Dexter Alimento of Iligan City weighed-in at 113 lbs (51.25 Kgs) in his Mandatory WBC 30-day Weigh-in ahead of his rumble against South African Deejay Kriel for the vacant WBC International 105-lbs title on Sunday July 23 at Emperors Palace, Gauteng, South Africa. Alimento's weight of 113 lbs was well inside the limit of 116 lbs (52.61 Kgs) for a WBC title fight in the minumumweight (105 lbs / 47.62 kgs) division, the lightest weight class for men in the sport of boxing. The boxer's weight was checked and confirmed by the authority of the Philippine Government's Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Sports and Regulation Officer Mr. Zosimo Jaraula III on June 22, 2017, shortly before noon at the GAB Extension Office located in the 3rd Floor of Rodesa I Bldg on Gomez Corner with Velez Streets in Cagayan de Oro City. Present during the 30-day weigh-in were GAB officers, as well as Dexter Alimento's manager Charlemagne Marban of Marban Boxing and the fighter's head trainer Keith Batolinyo, who will travel with his pupil to South Africa. In South Africa, the promising hard-hitting 21 year-old Dexter Alimento (12-1, 8 KO's) is set to exchange heavy artillery against the equally promising WBC # 35 Deejay Kriel (11-1-1, 6 KO's), whose 22nd birthday was last Tuesday. WHY IS THIS WBC INT'L TITLE FIGHT IMPORTANT? The rumble is a crucial clash for the two young up-and-coming fighters at an important moment in their boxing careers. A solid victory would propel the winner into the WBC's top 15 105-pounders in the planet with the possibility of facing the WBC world champion, who as of today is undefeated 47-0 Thailander Chayaphon Moonsri (also known as Wanheng Menayothin). The WBC World Champion Chayaphon Moonsri has been ordered by the WBC to defend against mandatory challenger WBC Latino Champion Leroy Estrada (16-2, 6 KO's) of Panama within 90 days; and the victorious of the Monsri-Estrada clash (likely to take place in Thailand), will be looking for a challenger. The loser in the Kriel-Alimento war would not only get his fighting image beaten up and his aura of dangerousness affected, but also get his sponsors disappointed; plus, will surely be taken out of the top-40 by the WBC.... unless, at the end of the 12 rounds we get a draw. MORE ABOUT FIGHTERS DEEJAY KRIEL AND DEXTER ALIMENTO The 5'2" orthodox South African Deejay Kriel - whose boxing idol is Floyd Mayweather Jr. - is managed and trained by coach Colin Nathan and is promoted by Golden Gloves Promotions of veteran South African man of boxing Rodney Berman. In his latest combat last April, Deejay Kriel had a tough opponent in Xolisa Magusha (7-2-1, 4 KO's) of Eastern Capeat at Deejay's second home, the Emperor's Palace. The shorter Kriel had to sweat extra hard to score the close 8-round unanimous decision win over the southpaw Magusha, who proved to be a spirited competitor. If the Kriel-Magusha fight would have been scored a draw, it wouldn't have been such a crazy scoring; and a rematch could happen in some future as Golden Gloves Promotions normally gets Deejay Kriel to fight his the same opponent twice; having done that already four times. Meanwhile, Dexter Alimento - on paper one inch taller than Deejay and also an orthodox fighter - comes from a rather easy round 3 TKO win over the already softened 71-fight journeyman Rodel Tejares (21-43-7, 6 KO's in Bukidnon last March. Alimento's one and only defeat in 13 rumbles was a close, controversial split decision loss for the Filipino in Japan. DEXTER ALIMENTO'S SADDEST WIN However, Dexter Alimento's most accomplished win was a stoppage of then unbeaten tough Thailand WBC Youth defending Champion Natthaphon Chaiudom (also known as Chanachai CP Freshmart) in Chaing Rai, Thailand, in January of last year. The win of Alimento over Chaiudom crowned the young Alimento as the WBC Youth 105-lbs champion However, that was a sad sad win for Alimento as Chaiudom collapsed. It was a competitive, very tough combat with both fighters working hard at the mid and close distance and the Thai ahead in points 79-77 in all three scorecards, however the losing Alimento was delivering some hard uppercuts to the jaw of Chaiudom. At the end of round 8th, both boxers went to their corners, sat down, and all seemed normal in the ring in that hot, humid January 2016 afternoon. Then, all the sudden, the Thai boxer Chaiudom collapsed dramatically on his stool. Unresponsive and unconscious, he had to be taken out in a stretcher to the Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital where Dr. Pong Wisetpaitoon, head doctor of the Charoen Pokphand Group found an injury to his brain. Thanks God, he survived, though sadly, the brave Thai boxer Natthaphon Chaiudom could not fight never again. This is reminder of how dangerous the sport of boxing is. It's a fact that we shall never forget, and how vigilant and committed corner men, referees, officials and all must be in protecting the lives of all boxers, who are all warriors and heroes.
