DUNO KOS TINAMPAY; PALICTE STOPS APOLINARIO

PhilBoxing.com

GENERAL Santos City ? US-bound Romero ?Ruthless? Duno and Aston ?Mighty? Palicte both scored a knockout win last Saturday night to prove that they are now ready again to campaign in the United States.

Duno landed left-right combinations to stop a stubborn Jason Tinampay from Bohol at least four times in the second round of the main event in the ?Brawl at the Mall: The Homecoming? held at the Robinson?s Mall here.

Duno displayed his world-class act infront of a huge crowd that included 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao?s chief trainer Freddie Roach and his assistant Buboy Fernandez.

Also present were former WBC world super featherweight champion Rolando ?Bad Boy from Dadiangas? Navarette and his younger brother and former Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation flyweight champion Romy.

Duno, who improved his record to 14 wins with 13 knockouts against only one defeat, is slated to go back soon for the US to join the Golden Boy Promotions.

?Excited na pud ko na makabalik sa US,? said Duno, who is managed by Dexter ?Wang Yu? Tan, chief finance officer of the Sanman Promotions.

Duno stands in a neutral corner during his fight with Jason Tinampay Saturday night in General Santos City.

The 21-year old Duno made his US debut last March 10 by stopping then-undefeated Mexican Christian Gonzales in the second round to capture the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental lightweight title at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Palicte, on the other hand, had to trade punches with a hard-fighting Mark John Apolinario before he scored two successive knockdowns in the 7th round.

Apolinario traded short punches with Palicte at the start of the fight but slowed down in the 6th round as he got hurt by the combinations.

Palicte hit Apolinario with a solid straight for the first knockdown early in the 7th round but the native from Maasim, Sarangani Province still managed to stand up.

Palicte, however, then went for the kill as he throw two successive punches to the chin of Apolinario, who laid down on the canvas for a few seconds.

?Magandang tune-up ito sa akin para sa susunod kong laban sa US,? said Palicte, who is currently the WBO Inter-Continental and NABF super flyweight title holder.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Muhamad Farkhan made an impressive his debut in the Philippines via a second round knockout against Marlon Alta of Maitum, Sarangani Province.

Farkhan landed two body shots for the knockout in the last 20 seconds of the second round to remain undefeated with four straight wins.

In the other bouts, Marquil Salvana knocked out Alvin Bais in 1:55 of the first round; Rinmar Metuda stopped Jovanie Rota by a technical knockout in 2:59 of the first round;

Dave Apolinario TKO?d Prince Canonero in 2:59 of the first round; Mark Antonio TKO?d Rusty Padua in 51 seconds of the 2nd round;

Jagear Bereno beat Elizer Ambon by a unanimous decision; Ar-Jay Recopelacion settled a unanimous draw with Rio Golipatan;
Yoben Lementillo TKO?d Mark Eric Menor in 2:34 of the second round; Jayson Francisco won against Rudy Salaton by a majority decision.

The boxing show was presented by Sanman Promotions headed by CEO Jim Claude Manangquil.

It was supported by the city government of Gensan, Robinson?s Mall, Mt. Sabrina Resort, Sydney Hotel and Isla Jardin.
