HORN?S TRAINING ACCELERATES AS PACQUIAO STARTS HIS CAMP By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Tue, 09 May 2017 Jeff Horn. Jeff Horn sparred six vigorous rounds with one of Australia?s rising undefeated fighters Liam Paro on Monday in preparation for the Battle of Brisbane with eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao. Horn?s rigid preparation accelerated with the start of his sparring sessions for the biggest boxing event ever in the Australian continent this coming July 2 at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. According to The Courier Mail, the 21-year-old Paro ?did his best to mimic Pacquiao?s all-action style and Horn said he was impressed with the work the youngster gave him? as they exchanged blows at the Stretton gym. Horn?s trainer Glenn Rushton was confident that WBO world superfeatherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko, a two-time Olympic gold medalist from Ukraine, will arrive in Australia to also spar for 60 rounds with Horn as training intensifies ahead of the biggest bout in Australian history. Meanwhile Pacquiao formally started his training camp Monday at the Elorde Boxing Gym at the Mall of Asia complex. ?I am excited to go back to the gym after about a six-month?s lay off. I really miss training at the gym with the members of Team Pacquiao and fans around,? Pacquiao was quoted by Aquiles Zonio of PhilBoxing. He was into shadow boxing, heavy bag, double-end ball, speed ball, skipping rope and abdominal exercises. The fighting lawmaker has to balance his training with his senate duties to include attending sessions and committee hearings and other official duties. * * * Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez reportedly had a rematch clause in his contract to fight Gennady Golovkin this coming September 16. Golden Boy Promotions, the promoter of the fight, had favored their favorite boxer. If Golovkin wins over Canelo, then he must fight him again if Canelo demands a rematch. But if Canelo wins, he is not mandated to give Golovkin a rematch. Canelo can fight whoever he wants to fight next. And that is grossly unfair for GGG. ?If GGG Boxing wins [on] Sept. 16, there is a rematch clause for Canelo to invoke. If Canelo wins, he can choose whoever he wants next,? said Lance Pugmire on his social media site as told by Dan Ambrose of Boxing News 24. Had Chavez defeated Canelo last Saturday, an immediate rematch would have been set on September and Golovkin has to wait for next year to fight Canelo, most probably on May 2018, one year from now. * * * The Golden State Warriors swept the Utah Jazz, 4-0 to advance to the Western Conference finals for the third consecutive year, with a 121-95 victory on Monday night. Same as the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Warriors are still in a perfect 8-0 these playoffs. It is the second time that two NBA teams have not tasted defeat on their way to the conference finals under the present playoff format. It marked the first time the Warriors have swept two series in a playoff and the first time they have swept back-to-back series. Stephen Curry topscored a game-high 30 points with five rebounds and seven assists. He sank all eight of his free throws. Klay Thompson contributed 21 points to recover from a measly 1-for-9 shooting in Game 3. While Kevin Durant relaxed a bit after scoring 38 points in Game 3 by adding 18 points and six boards. Draymond Green marked his third career playoff triple-double by getting 17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists while being a defensive genius.
