“WHO’S NEXT? 4” BOXERS MAKE WEIGHT FOR WATERFRONT BATTLE

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY – Two WBO Oriental belts will be at stake when unbeaten prospects from the Omega Gym of Cebu trade punches with the visiting Indonesians this Saturday.

Jhack “El Capitan” Tepora, the defending WBO junior featherweight titlist, weighed in at 122 lbs while Indon Yon Armed was a pound lighter during the official weigh-in held Friday at the fight venue,
the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Tepora’s stable mate, Christian “The Bomb” Araneta, also made weight, at 107 lbs while Demsi Manufoe (11-6,8KO’s) of Indonesia was at 106 lbs. They will dispute the vacant WBO Oriental light flyweight title.

Tepora (19-0,14KO’s) has officially changed his moniker from “Sparrow” to “El Capitan” and stated that he doesn’t want to be associated with a small black bird and he wanted a new moniker.

Armed (14-7, 6KO’s)repeated his promise to KO Tepora but the Filipino countered by saying that his opponent better back it up on fight night or he will be the one who will get knocked out.

The boxers, VIPs and officials during Friday's presscon.

Araneta (13-0,11KO’s) said he does not feel any pressure that he is fighting a foreign foe for his first major belt for the first time in a big fight venue.

WBO VP for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo emphasized the importance of these regional fights during the press conference held after the weigh-in.

“Tepora is now ranked number eleven in the world by the WBO. If he continues to successfully defend his title, his ranking will go higher.” Panoncillo stated, “The winner of the Araneta-Manufoe fight will be ranked in the top fifteen.”

Also set to appear on the card is undefeated Jessie Cris Rosales (20-0-1,8KO’s) vs Jerry Nardo (21-10, 11KO’s), Salatiel Amit vs Renerio Arizala, Jerry Castroverde vs Ryan Quimbo, Feljun Taneo vs
Jeffrey Stella, Tomjune Magubat vs Marvin Tampus, Mark Vicelles vs Fabio Marfa and Marjun Piencenaves vs Mark Rotillos.

Also present during the press conference were Waterfront Gen. manager Anders Hallden, Kenneth Tan COO of Hyundai cebu who are sponsors of the event, Omega Pro Sports International (OPSI) VP Rico Navarro and OPSI Pres. Pio Paulo Castillo.

Castillo told the members of the media present that more of the “Who’s Next?” boxing series will be expected this year. They plan to look at Tepora’s future opponents on a case to case basis, on what they will bring to the table in terms of ability and benefit to their fighter.

The weigh-in and press conference was hosted by ring announcer Sandi Grumo. The fights on March 18 will be at the Pacific Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and the preliminary bouts will start at 6pm. Tickets are very affordable ranging from 500 to 100 pesos.
