ARMED VOWS TO KNOCK OUT TEPORA By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Thu, 16 Mar 2017 CEBU CITY - "Records don't matter." Indonesian boxers Yon Armed and Demsi Manufoe were not in awe of the undefeated records of Filipino boxers Jhack Tepora and Christian Araneta two days before their WBO Oriental title bouts set at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. Armed even took it a step further and promised to knockout Tepora in four or five rounds. ?I have seen his fights on youtube. I know he is strong and fast. I have also prepared for a long fight.? Armed stated during the press conference held Thursday noon at the Mango Park Hotel. ?I will show the Philippines how strong I am,? said Armed, who actually lost in Gen.Santos City last year to a Japanese, Hiroshige Osawa, for the WBO Asia Pacific featherweight title. ?I made mistakes in that fight. I lacked preparation and chose to fight him toe to toe.?? Armed explained. ?Now I am prepared against Tepora, I trained for three weeks and will go the distance if needed.?. Tepora (19-0,14KO?s) will defend his WBO Oriental junior featherweight title against Armed (14-7, 6KO?s) this Saturday in the main event of ?WHO?S NEXT?4?. Tepora also announced on social media that he will have a new moniker for this fight, from being Jack ?Sparrow?, he will now sport the name, ?El Capitan?. This fight card is Omega Sports Promotion?s first venture into the traditional big fight venue here in Cebu after staging their fight series in malls and at the Mandaue Sports Complex. Demsi Manufoe (11-6,8KO?s) will go for the vacant WBO Oriental junior flyweight title against ?The Bomb?, Christian Araneta (13-0,11KO?s). Manufoe is tall for his division but stated that he will have no weight problems on Friday. Manufoe also vowed victory but did not promise a KO. He said they did not come to the Philippines to lose and plans to box and go for a long fight. Long time boxing analyst Jeffrey Pamungkas served as interpreter and compared the Filipino boxers to Mike Tyson and the Indonesians to Evander Holyfield. ?No one expected Holyfield to win but he shocked the world.?, Pamungkas said as a closing statement. There will be seven preliminary fights on March 18 including unbeaten prospect Jessie Cris Rosales (20-0-1,8KO?s) vs Jerry Nardo (21-10, 11KO?s). The press conference was hosted by OPSI Vice President Rico Navarro. The official weigh-in will be held Friday 11AM at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
