PETALCORIN EYES YAEGASHI-MELINDO WINNER By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Mon, 27 Feb 2017 GEN. SANTOS CITY - Former WBA interim light flyweight world titlist Randy Petalcorin emerged victorious on the undercard of Laban Pinoy 3: Rise of the Champions held Sunday at the Lagao Gym of General Santos City Petalcorin showcased his world class skills and knocked down Mark Anthony Florida in rounds two and six, making Florida not to answer the bell for the seventh round in their non-title bout. Australian Promoter Peter Maniatis, who co-manages Petalcorin, informed philboxing by e-mail after his boxer's win about their world title hopes. We feel we are ready to fight for the IBF world title and have no hesitation in accepting the world title shot against the winner of Akira Yaegashi and Milan Melindo bout in May," said promoter Maniatis. "It was an impressive win. Petalcorin has been training very hard at the Sanman gym and we are looking to win another world title again this year or fight in an eliminator for the number 1 spot. Yaegashi, from Japan is the regular champion while Melindo from the ALA Gym of Cebu is the interim champ. An IBF eliminator fight for the number one ranking has a big chance of happening, Maniatis added, We are waiting on IBFs Lindsey Tucker to confirm this around mid-year. Maniatis also said that there is good chance that Petalcorin will have a tune-up bout in Australia because they have to keep him active and keep him moving up the rankings. Last December, the 25 year old Petalcorin (26W-2L-1D,19KOs) won the vacant IBF Pan Pacific light flyweight title by unanimous decision against Arnold Garde in a fight held at the Robinsons Mall in Gen. Santos. The latest light flyweight contender rankings of the IBF has Petalcorin at number seven while the WBC has him at number eight.
