SANMAN BOXERS SWEEP WBF BOUTS AND UNDERCARDS

PhilBoxing.com

Ben Mananquil's arm raised victorious over Glenn Porras.

GEN. SANTOS CITY ? Jade Bornea?s IBF Youth title win against Raul Yu was not the only bout that had the crowd on their feet.

?Iron? Ben Mananquil vs. Glenn ?The Rock? Porras was a battle of hard men and certainly not for the faint of heart. Right from the opening bell, they engaged in phone booth warfare at a frenetic pace. Porras had a small cut early in the fight but this did not slow him down one bit.

They took turns cornering and battering each other and in the seventh, Porras was staggering and on the verge of going down. But he miraculously recovered and brought the fight to Mananquil once again in the eighth round.

Mananquil, however, was the fresher fighter in the late rounds and in the last seconds of the fight, the fans yelled themselves hoarse when the boxers swung for the fences.

All three judges had it 97-93 for Mananquil who won the WBF International bantamweight belt.

It is still February but this fight is an early frontrunner for Philippine fight of the year.

Eden Sonsona celebrates his opening round win over Jovanny Rota.

Eden Sonsona needed only one minute and forty-one seconds to dispose of Jovanny Rota. Sonsona caught Rota with sneaky head shots and Rota was dazed but still standing in the neutral corner. The fight continued but Rota was trapped in the opposite neutral corner and received a bone-chilling battering before the fight was stopped.

Eden was awarded the WBF International super featherweight title.

Lolito Sonsona with Team Sanman.

In a fast-paced well fought contest, Lolito Sonsona beat the late surge of Renren Tesorio and prevailed by unanimous decision. Scores ? 97-93, 96-94,96-94. Lolito got the WBF Asia Pacific upper flyweight crown.

The WBF bouts were supervised by Lito delos Reyes.

Former WBA interim world light flyweight champ Randy Petalcorin knocked down Mark Anthony Florida in rounds two and six forcing Florida not to answer the bell for the seventh round.

For the rest of the undercards - Mike Plania overpowered Jetly Purisima who chose not to answer the bell for round six, Jayson Mama won by unanimous decision over Jeffrey Alejandre, John Moralde knocked down Philip Parcon twice in round two and once in the third to prevail by TKO in the third round.

Two boxers fighting out of China also won their bouts- expat Ernie Sanchez beat Richard Betos by first round knockout and Chinese boxer Ou Yuzhou survived a flash knockdown in the opening round to down Holly Quinones in the second.

This fight card was held on at the Lagao Gym of Gen.Santos City and presented by Sanman Promotions and Solar Sports. It was sponsored by Sen. Manny Pacquiao, the city government of Gensan, Mt. Sabrina Resort, Barberlife and Amoy Promotions.
